Physical Therapy: What to expect

What is Physical Therapy?

Many of you have heard of physical therapy, or you may have gone to see one yourself in the past. But I can guarantee you that my services are unique compared to the services offered in the traditional medical system.

Physical Therapists are the “pain” experts. More specifically, my job is to help you uncover and address what movement habits or muscles weaknesses you , for whatever reason, have developed which are no longer serving you, and are causing you to move (or sit) with pain.

In a nutshell, I can help you figure out how you move and guide you to moving well.

What does a Physical Therapy program entail?

1. Initial Evaluation

First, a lengthy subjective history will be taken. Be prepared to answer questions involving your previous pain/injury, past medical history, movement habits, and your individual goals. Next, a  thorough physical assessment  will be performed through movement analysis, muscle strength testing and general flexibility. Depending on how you plan on moving through life, I have a treadmill and workout equipment to use so we can dive in deep about what is causing your pain.

2. Follow Ups

After a thorough examination to  determine where underlying weakness or abnormal tissue tone is located, I will write an individual treatment program for you. Follow ups consist of a combination of manual therapy to treat underlying tissue abnormalities and therapeutic exercise to resolve your problem at the root source. You will also receive an individual home exercise program which is basically a prescription for specific movements you can perform at home to optimize your treatment sessions.

3. Continuation of Care

My clinic is different from many other physical therapy clinics because I will not discharge you the moment you seem better. At Refine Physical Therapy, I place a very high value on the relationships that I build with my clients as well as the results that my clients achieve AND maintain. This means that my doors are always open for you when you want to come see me. I can help you stay accountable for maintaining the results you have achieved as well as tackle any new issues if they do come up.
